Free admission and child-friendly exhibits make the former library building a manageable introduction to local history.

A history museum visit with children works better when curiosity has somewhere to go. South Jordan’s Gale Museum describes exhibits designed for smaller visitors, including play areas, hands-on objects and recreations of historical buildings. Some objects remain display-only, so an early conversation about what can be touched helps everyone settle in.
The museum opened in June 2006 in a building that previously served as the South Jordan branch library. Admission is free, with donations accepted. At 10300 South Beckstead Lane, current hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Monday and weekends are closed.

Choose one exhibit to explore slowly before moving on. Ask what a familiar task might have involved with different tools or in a different building. Let a child point out the detail that interests them, even if it is not the object you expected to discuss. Adults need to remain with children throughout the visit.
Groups should be around twenty people or fewer at once; larger or staggered visits need arrangements with staff. Check holiday notices, including the announced Friday, October 30 closure. Food and drinks stay outside the galleries, with the lobby and outdoor picnic area offering places for a break before another look.
